Each 'genre' has its own isolated considerations and rules, please read them as you enter the section. In brief: An 8/10 in Jazz it's not as good as an 8/10 Rock records (although it might be). A 5/10 in classical might be far better than a 7/10 Rock record; The ranking scale, at best, only tells you how acquainted I'm with a record or how much joy it brings me to hear it. I don't have any authority in music at all, Im the less competent person in the world to tell you why bach it's better than The Gun Club. The only reason why you might be interested on reading this is because you're a rather idle person or you might find interesting what a non-qualified person has to say about music.
